59th Pakistan Independence Day celebrations -PAFA

Sunday 27th August:

59th Pakistan Independence day was celebrated with great traditional enthusiasm and zeal. This Function was a joint effort by Pakistan Australia Friendship Association (PAFA), Pakistan Business Association Canberra (PBA) and Pakistan Cricket Club Canberra (PCCC).

Chief Guest Mr. Tanveer Khaskheli, Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan, ACT Chief Minister Mr. Jon Stanhope, Senator Gary Humphries, MLA Mary Porter attended this auspicious day rememberance function with some 400 Community members.

President f PAFA Mr. Khawar Saleem Khan gave the welcome speech and highlighted the importance of the day. He introduced the newly elected PAFA executive committee which included Vice president : Syed Jaffry, Secretary: Saad Hafiz, Treasurer: Irfan Yousaf, Executive members: Afzaal Anjum and Zia qureshi. He also emphasized on the importance of unity and rememberance of Pakisan in every individual act. He reminded the audience about the three main principles of Qaid-e- Azam (Unity, Faith and Discipline). He thanked the followings for contributing into PAFAs earthquake relief fund appeals:

Vietnamese Community Melbourne for donating $16000
ACT chief Minister for donating $10000
Senator gary Humphries for his efforts in sending relief staff to Pakistan.
Ms. Mary Porter for Organizing the Media coverage for all PAFA's earthquake appeal events.
Mr. Saad Hafiz Secretary PAFA and Natasha did an exceptional MC job, their jokes and witty quotes made the evening full of laughters.
President of PBA Mr. Zia Qureshi also addressed the audience and introduced his new team.
Director PCCC Mr. Syed Jaffry inroduced his team and explained the activities and objectives of the club.
Deputy High Commissioner of pakistan Mr. Tanveer Khaskheli, Senator Gary Humphries and ACT chief minister Mr. Jon Stanhope highlighted the importance of diversity and multicultureism in Canberra. They also reemphasized the dream of Qaide Azam and the ways to keep his dream alive.
Later on Mr. Irfan Yousaf launched PAFAs membership Privilidged card and gave a presentation on its benefits.
Miss Anum Malik spoke on a very interesting topic of "Pakistan and the younger generation".
Pakistani and Australian national anthems were sung by Riaz shah and Kateline Rod.
A great Bhangra and musical session followed the Gala dinner . Riaz shah, PM international group and Salma made the night memorable.
Every one enjoyed this evening and organizers were praised for their efforts.
